David

I understand that she kept much of her marriage and divorce private as an act of respect towards her ex-husband (and it showed her character). This might be why I felt she mentioned her relationship with David a great deal more than she did her marriage... (or maybe she expressed that relationship with a bit more emphasis?)

I guess what I'm trying to say is... sometimes it seemed like her failed relationship with David was "worse" or "more traumatizing," than her divorce?

Maybe because she understood her relationship with her husband was over since before that moment in her bathroom. But with David, she didn't fully accept the end of the relationship until further into her year of traveling.

What does everyone think about the two relationships... David vs. The Ex-husband?

Pray

This morning I took the train... to a church service... yes... and I'm reading Eat Pray Love sitting in the corner at the end of the subway car. Last week I read through the first section- Eat- which was wonderful, but since then I'm still in the second part- Pray. So anyway I'm reading about her struggles trying to focus on meditation and find the silence in herself when I reach 34th street and start to feel sort of nauseated from reading on the train. I'm getting off next stop so I put my book away and check the time etc, and I have whatever urge to look at the train door- one of those unexplainable kinds of things where you suddenly find yourself looking in a certain direction. In a very unnoticeable spot on the train door handle, someone sharpied "PRAY" vertically onto it and I got chills. This happened right as the train was pulling into 23rd (my stop), so I quickly whipped out my phone to snap a picture of it because I didn't think ANYONE would believe this one. It sure felt like a sign of sorts, but I have no idea what to make of it.

sorry it's kind of blurry-- I had to act quick!

A bit about us...

***unfinished!! everyone should post if they want! just edit this post to add it*** the font is verdana..

Who are we?!

Alyssa Bermudez--- If there's ever a time for exploration it's right now. There's something about books that inspire this - whether it's something that allows me to see and appreciate in a new way or a book that invigorates my artistic imagination. Some of my recent favorites are The Last Lecture, French Milk, and Pride & Prejudice (yes, I only read that one recently). I definitely have my guilty pleasure books too like the Harry Potter series... and yes the Twilight Saga too (shhh). Stories of personal journeys/struggles and suspenseful excursions are a couple of my favorites to engage in. One of my goals is to write and illustrate a graphic novel based on my childhood journals. I honestly look forward to laughing out loud, biting my nails in suspense, and shedding a tear while reading together with some of my closest friends...and sharing our own stories as well.

Jhulianna Cintron---Ever met someone who actually enjoyed mandatory summer reading and writing book reports? Well, here she is. Whether it's reading a popular teen series, a self-help book, or a New York times bestseller, she loves the indulgence of a great book (particularly those that make you feel like you're one of the characters, feeling how they feel, thinking how they think). She's not embarrassed to admit she loves anything by Nicholas Sparks (we all need a good cry at times) and Emily Giffin (chick lit is totally in). Her favorite books include but are not limited to the Harry Potter series, The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and Jane Eyre. She is delighted to share with friends what is not only a favorite hobby, but a wonderful escape as stories unfold...

Book Club Kick Off

Ready, set, go! I guess I'll write the first post! What better way to start off our book club than with Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat Pray Love? A story of a woman's journey across the world is exactly what we need to kick this off. The members of this book club so far- Jhulianna, Melissa, Stephanie, Tatiana, and I will pick a book every month or so and use this blog to meet and discuss it and anything else that comes to mind in the process. If anyone wants to join in let us know!

xoxo,
